i'm at 105 or 106 pounds but she says i'm underweight but the bmi thing says i could be 93 and still regular. she wants me to gain like 12 pounds......Okay is my doctor lying?
BMI isn't actually intended for use with people under the age of 18. It basically applies to adults althopugh you might argue at the age of 15 the BMI is acceptable.
I did the calculation and you didn't say if you were male or female but the calculation puts you at the lowest limit for your height.
Finally, the doctor should use a table of percentiles which is appropriate for your age and gender. So all considered, I would think the doctor is correct. Adding six pounds in a reasonable manner over time would not be a bad idea. That means exercise and put on the weight.
yeah you are underweight...the weight gain could be beneficial to your health
BMI is really a rough indicator of whether you are over- or underweight. Someone who is very muscular may have a high BMI, but not have a lot of fat. Your doctor may be taking into account body frame size (measured at the wrist) or body fat measurements. Waist circumference is another measure of body weight. Of course, she may also be concerned about your eating habits.
no shes not lying. you do need to gain some weight. but not to much.maybe like 10 moe pounds.
why would your doctor lie to you?
you are underweight for a teenager. it is better to be chubby or fat, then skinny as a teenager. fat is necessary for proper brain function. and while you're still growing you shouldnt neglect any chances for you to grow to be an intelligent and healthy adult.
